About

Me.me is a content aggregation website that indexes notable instances of internet memes from various online communities and social networking sites. Since its original launch under the name Onsizzle in 2015, the website has established itself as a search engine for internet memes, as well as a cryptocurrency market centered around the practice of trading memes.

History

The website was originally launched under the name Sizzle by three Bay Area software developers, Shane Walker, Fariz Chowdhurry and Jim Hefner, in December 2015. According to Shane Walker, CEO of me.me, the platform was conceived as a meme search engine after realizing that "no one had created a search engine specifically for memes" at the time. At the end of 2016, Sizzle rebranded itself under the newly acquired domain, Me.me. According to Crunchbase[2], Me.me has raised $1.5 million in funding.

Features

The website is comprised of a search box and an image gallery featuring collections of the most popular and most recent memes indexed by its algorithms. All instances of memes indexed on the site are sorted by tags and associated keywords, including a link to the source page from which the image had been scraped.

On April 7th, 2017, Me.me unveiled Me.me Trends, a search analytics tool that is designed to track and visualize the relative popularity of one or more memes in trend cycle, along with The Meme Zeitgeist, a data visualized report on the popularity of various memes and the visibly growing infusion of politics in meme culture.

MEMECOIN

Me.me unveiled a pre-sale registration for MEMECOIN, a cryptocurrency market inspired by the tongue-in-cheek concept of buying, selling and trading memes, which was originally popularized by the Meme Economy community on Reddit.
