About
Knewz is a news aggregation website launched by Murdoch News Corp. Upon its beta launch in January of 2020, the site's layout was widely mocked for its non-uniform design, drawing unfavorable comparisons to Vox and Drudge Report.
History
Knewz launched on January 29th, 2020.[1] The site purports to aggregate from a variety of publications on trending topics, looking to provide readers with a balance of coverage from all sides of the political spectrum and all sizes of publications. According to chief executive Robert Thomson:
“Readers will have access to publishers large and small, niche and general, located in all 50 states. We live in a world of vexatious verticals, of crass clickbait, of polarized perspectives and fallacious, fact-free feeds – Knewz is knowing and needed. Knewz nous is in the house.”
Online Presence
Upon launch, the site was widely mocked for its non-uniform front page design and overwhelming text. Twitter user @hardin[2] wrote, "knewz looks like if vox fucked drudge," gaining over 100 retweets and 1,200 likes (shown below, left). User @edzitron[3] joked, "Introducing Knewz – bringing you the most news with the most font sizes, guaranteed," gaining over 100 likes (shown below, right).
Writing in Slate, Ashley Feinberg wrote a humorous piece in which she interviewed the parents of her coworkers to see if the site's design appealed to Boomers.[4]
