About
Insane Bookmarks is a Twitter gimmick account that posts screenshots of tweets that have been bookmarked a lot for one reason or another, often revealing the suspicious intentions of those bookmarking them. Launched on the same day Twitter made information about the number of bookmarks on tweets public, the account went viral in mid-March 2023.
History
On March 16th, 2023, the amount of times a tweet had been bookmarked was made public information to Twitter users on iOS.[1] On that day, an established gimmick account switched its name to Insane Bookmarks (@insanebookmarks),[2][3] tweeting screenshots of tweets that had been bookmarked a large number of times for a suspicious and typically obvious reason. On that day, the account made its first tweet,[4] a screenshot of I've Never Seen a Girl Look Good in These bait post that gained over 3,200 bookmarks from users who presumably wanted to see photographs of women wearing the item. The tweet gained over 1,000 retweets and 37,800 likes in four days (shown below).
In the following days, the account made several more posts that went viral on Twitter. For example, on March 17th, the account tweeted[5] a screenshot of a Twitter thread titled "how to suck dick," which gained over 57,400 bookmarks. The tweet (shown below, left) gained over 3,800 retweets and 76,700 likes in three days. On March 19th, the account tweeted[6] a screenshot of an image of The King of Fighters character Mai Shiranui bending down, bookmarked over 10,000 times, with the post gaining over 50 retweets and 2,600 likes in roughly 24 hours (shown below, right).
Features
Insane Bookmarks posts screenshots of tweets that have been bookmarked for some reason, most often due to people wishing to save the information for sexual purposes or to check up on the replies, also for sexual purposes.
Traffic
The account had over 52,000 followers as of March 20th, 2023, four days since switching to its current topic. It is unknown how many followers the account had prior to the conversion.
