History

On January 31st, 2024, game designer Neal Agarwal released Infinite Craft,[1] a browser game in which the player crafts an ever-expanding list of components together. On that day, Agarwal made a post about the release on X[2] / Twitter, where it garnered over 15 million views, 11,000 reposts and 37,000 likes in one week (shown below).

Features

Infinite craft allows players to combine various components together to craft new components to be used in future crafting attempts. The game starts with players having access to Fire, Wind, Earth and Water, with the player dragging and dropping two components onto each other to get a new result. Powered by an AI, the game allows for near limitless crafting options, including people, events, characters and unique results (e.g. "Clockwork Kong," "PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale," "Touhou Yuri").

Highlights

The release was followed by players sharing unique crafting results on social media, as well as failed attempts to craft certain something that didn't work as expected. For example, on February 1st, 2024, X[3] user @h0mmelette posted a video in which they crafted together "Gay Hitler" and "Pedophilia" that received over 2.8 million views, 5,200 reposts and 56,000 likes in four days (shown below).

More posts sharing images and videos of gameplay went viral on X / Twitter in early February 2024. For example, on February 3rd, 2024, X[4] user @_penroze posted a screenshot of the first-ever craft of Scott Cawthon, the developer of Five Nights at Freddy's. The post (shown below, left) garnered over 4,500 reposts and 56,000 likes in two days.

Traffic

On February 2nd, 2024, developer Neal Agarwal reported[5] that players were crafting nearly 1,000 items per second, and attempted to contact Together AI to increase the site's rate limit.[6]

The Password Game

The Password Game is a puzzle game released by developer Neal Agarwal that parodies the process of generating a password, with password restrictions getting increasingly outlandish as the game goes on. Released in June 2023, the game achieved virality on social media and with streamers as it spread online.
