/fit/ is a forum dedicated to discussions about exercise, nutrition and general health on the image board site 4chan. The community, referred to as "/fit/izens", is known for their focus on weight lifting and for popularizing various fitness-related Internet memes.
On February 19th, 2008, the /fit/ (Health & Fitness) board was added to 4chan. On February 3rd, 2011, the 4chanfit Wiki[3] was launched. On November 17th, a Facebook[4] page titled "4chan /fit/" was created. On January 30th, 2014, YouTuber Shiggy Diggy uploaded a testimonial video by titled "Tyrones Guide to /fit/," in which Fiverr testimonial video creator Gordon Hurd reads a script containing various /fit/ meme references (shown below).
Several threads referred to as "/fit/ pickup lines" have been submitted to the board, which popularized the expression "ayy bby u want sum fuk?"
The Tumblr user SirArtwork[1] has illustrated several webcomics about the /fit/ community, typically involving a /fit/izen's frustrating experiences at a gym (shown below).
"Please be in London," sometimes written as "pls be in London," is an expression often used as a sarcastic response to a post by someone claiming to be a woman.[2]
"Do You Even Lift?" (DYEL) is a condescending expression used on /fit/ and other fitness forums to question the legitimacy of someone’s fitness expertise or weight lifting routine.
Zyzz was the online handle of Aziz Shavershian, an Australian bodybuilder who frequented /fit/ and the /misc/ (miscellaneous) Bodybuilding Forums board. He promoted acquiring an “aesthetic” physique gained through weight lifting and having a low body fat percentage. Although Zyzz was often criticized for being a shameless narcissist, his untimely death at age of 22 ultimately brought him iconic stature on the web, especially within bodybuilding communities.
