Animals Going Goblin Mode is a Twitter gimmick account that shares images and videos of animals doing bizarre or feral things that can best be described as "going goblin mode." Launched in April 2022, the account achieved virality in the following months.
History
Goblin Mode is a slang term generally used to describe a person or an animal acting feral that achieved viral spread in February 2022.
On April 20th, 2022, Twitter[1] gimmick account Animals Going Goblin Mode (@mischiefanimals) was launched, making its first post,[2] a video of a cat tearing a roll of toilet paper, on the same day. The post gained over 38,200 views, 350 retweets and 2,100 likes in two months (shown below).
In the following months, the account posted multiple images and videos of animals behaving in a hyperactive, bizarre or menacing fashion that went viral on Twitter. For example, on May 1st, 2022, the account tweeted[3] a photograph of a person holding their bloodied finger next to an angry-looking cat, with the post gaining over 37,700 retweets and 408,900 likes in one month (shown below, left). On May 25th, the account posted[4] a photograph of a bird snatching a hamburger that gained over 37,700 retweets and 299,100 likes in three weeks (shown below, center). On June 13th, the account posted[5] a photograph of an elephant drinking from a pot on a stove that received over 24,100 retweets and 253,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
Features
Animals Going Goblin Mode posts photographs, including photoshops and captioned images, and videos of domestic and wild animals doing bizarre, menacing, funny or otherwise unusual things that can be appropriately described as "going goblin mode."
Traffic
As of June 15th, 2022, two months since its launch, the Twitter gimmick account accumulated over 339,000 followers. The Instagram account gained over 740 followers in the same period.
