About
Anaesthesia Blues is a fictional television show invented for the gimmick Twitter account @AnaesthesiaOOC. The account parodies out-of-context accounts by showing a series of stock photos with made-up captions, intended to confuse viewers who aren't in on the joke about the content of the show, which began in late 2020.
History
@AnaesthesiaOOC[1] launched in September 2020 but didn't begin posting until November 2nd, 2021 (first screenshots shown below).[2] The account was started by Jeremy Kaplowitz, who is also the editor of The Hard Drive
Over the following two weeks, the account posted several similar stock photos with humorous captions, ultimately gaining nearly 8,000 followers by November 15th, 2021.
Online Presence
The account has developed a fandom on Twitter among people who were in on the joke. Multiple users quote-tweet and reply to the account as if the show were real. For example, user @DjOrmond[3] quote-tweeted the account on November 12th, 2021, discussing how one of the "scenes" from the show was "Emmy-worthy" (shown below, left). User @ScottWamplerBMD[4] posted a joke saying, "ANAESTHESIA BLUES is currently my favorite show and yet somehow no one is talking about it?? Sad imho. Please look it up, get started, join the cult, and ensure this bad boy gets the 4th season it deserves" (shown below, right).
The site was also inquired about in a post in /r/OutOfTheLoop[5] on November 14th, 2021, receiving over 2,400 upvotes and 110 comments in roughly 48 hours.
