Sir, You've Been in a Coma is an image macro series featuring stock photographs of people speaking to medical practitioners while laying in a hospital bed, featuring captions depicting the patient as someone who just woke from a coma. The bottom captions in the series typically contain humorous statements delivered by the patient, who is unaware that certain events have come to pass.
Origin
On August 26th, 2016, the @dubstep4dads Instagram page posted a photograph of a man laying in a hospital bed next to a nurse, in which he names the 2006 pop song "Fergalicious" by Fergie after being told he has been in a coma since the year 2006 (shown below).
Spread
On September 8th, 2016, the internet humor blog Surf.co[2] posted a photoshopped image of Rick Harrison laying in hospital bed (shown below). The same day, the Freedumb and Demockrazy Facebook[4] page posted an image macro in which a nurse asks "did you just assume my gender?" (shown below, right).
On September 16th, the @FunnyPicsDepot[1] Twitter feed posted an image macro in which a man waking from a coma asks how Harambe the gorilla is doing (shown below). Within one month, the tweet received upwards of 2,700 likes and 1,200 retweets. On October 18th, Instagram user @nakedpopsicles[3] posted an image macro in which the first President of the United States George Washington wakes from a coma and expresses enthusiasm to see his "perfect no political party system of government" (shown below, right).
