Simon Cowell's Face refers to an image of America's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell on the red carpet for the season 14 live show. The image went viral in mid-2019, due to a Twitter user pointing out an odd difference in Cowell's teeth and eyes leading to wide-spread commentary and conspiracy surrounding Cowell's "new" face. A derivative using another picture of his insincere smile is also occasionally used as a meme.

Origin

On August 14th, 2019, Twitter user @AliseNavidad^[1] tweeted two pictures of Simon Cowell with the caption, "Someone please stop working and talk to me about what in the living fuck simon cowell has done to his face" (shown below). The tweet garnered over 25,200 likes and 3,700 retweets in a day.

Spread

On August 14th, 2019, Twitter users began replying to @AliseNavidad's post agreeing that he looks odd. Twitter user @jordo_hanch^[2] asked, "did he have his eyes relocated?" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 283 likes in a day. Twitter user @whatkyIasaid^[3] commented, "I wonder if he commented on his cosmetic surgeon’s 'ghastly performance'" (shown below, right). The tweet accumulated over 420 likes in a day.

That same day, other celebrities and news outlets took note of Cowell's seemingly sunken eyes. Perez Hilton^[4] tweeted, "I’m going with: new veneers, fillers in the cheek, Botox in the forehead and a possible eye job too! What do U think of the new Simon Cowell???" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 270 likes in a day. The Daily Dot^[8] confirmed that Cowell has not recently mentioned undergoing any plastic surgery but only commented on his recent weight-loss, though has mentioned receiving a face lift in the past.^[6]^[7] The next day, Many Twitter users continued to mock the photograph of Simon Cowell. Twitter user @Craigadd^[5] tweeted, "This is a deep fake where you can see Simon Cowell actually morph into Keith Richards. It's truly terrifying that soon we won't be able to trust our eyes. People will call fake videos real and real videos fake. Imagine when this is all properly weaponised!" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 100 likes in a day.

Fake Smile Derivative

On July 5th, 2019, Cowell was photographed by the Sun^[9] with Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, all former hosts and judges on Britain's Got Talent.

Later that month, the image of Cowell's smile, looking insincere thanks to his plastic surgery, was used as a meme by ESLCS,^[10] a Twitter account of a Counter-Strike Esports league. The tweet (below) received over 50 retweets and 600 likes in 2 years.

The image is occasionally used as a meme. On September 13, 2021, Redditor -Sinop posted an example of the meme to r/memes.^[11] The image (below) received over 90,000 upvotes in 2 days.
