About

Shut Up! My Dad Works At X is an exploitable phrase similar to "My Uncle Works At Nintendo" but with a negative slant attached. The meme, first being used for Roblox and Discord, became used for various other organizations and pretends to promise consequences to posters on such platforms.

Origin

On April 15th, 2018, the first usage of the meme could be found in the AminoApps user forums, being posted with the phrasing that the OP's[1] dad works at AminoApps and that they will ban the reader if they mess with the OP again, with the meme being a variation of an earlier, no longer existing version (shown below).

One month later, on May 29th, the X user @BlurpleProject[2] uploaded the first instance of the meme to mention Discord, saying that their dad works there and can give a permanent ban if they are messed with again, implying that they could be the original creator (shown below).

Spread

On July 14th, 2018, the X user @itsmakos[3] uploaded a variation of the meme in which they swapped out Discord for Roblox, stating that their dad works for Roblox, while adding two OK Symbols on the shoes of the kid, creating a The Circle Game reference (shown below).

Starting after 2022, the meme started to evolve into different variations that did not involve being banned from a service. This would often be the same initial phrase, with the setup that the OP's dad worked at some place, and instead of saying that the viewer would be banned, it would be an action related to the setup. On May 18th, 2023, a deleted Redditor[4] uploaded a variation stating that the kid's dad worked at the CIA and that they would get the viewer's whole neighborhood addicted to crack (shown below).
