On October 15th, 2020, Twitter[1] user @keri_wtf tweeted a photograph of a man holding a baby up to a security camera and monitor at a Walmart retail store. The monitor shows a closeup of the baby's face, which the camera is pointing at. They captioned the tweet, "absolutely losing it over this picture of my brother with his baby." The tweet received more than 1.3 million likes and 187,000 retweets in less than one week (shown below).
Spread
The following day, on October 16th, 2020, Redditor bewareofmicrowave shared the image in the /r/pics[2] subreddit. The post received more than 64,000 points (91% upvoted) and 515 comments in less than one week.
Within a week, people began posting variations of the image, editing the subjects out of the photo and replacing them with various other characters. On October 18th, Twitter[4] user @sseunbean tweeted a variation that received more than 22,000 likes and 6,500 retweets in less than one week (shown below, left). On October 19th, 2020, Redditor hawflaek posted a variation of the meme in the /r/shieldbro[3] subreddit. The post received more than 3,1000 points (99% upvoted) in less than one week (shown below, center). The following day, Redditor ridoot posted a variation in the /r/AmongUs subreddit. The post received more than 3,600 points (99% upvoted) in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
