Shoob

About

"Shoob" or "shoobie" is a slang term for a large, white herding dog known as a Samoyed. Known for it's white, fluffy fur, Samoyed has received a similar treatment online to doge or shibe.

Origin

While the origin of "shoob" as a term is largely unknown, one of the earliest examples of the word being used online comes from a Facebook page dedicated to "shoob" named “Hardcore pic shoobie dog meme’s” which was founded On November 11th, 2013. As of June 2017, the page has over 150,000 likes and follows.^[1] Another early example is the popular subreddit /r/shoobie, which launched on December 5th, 2013, by Redditor Lezemotu.^[2]

Spread

On September 6th, 2015, the Facebook account SHOOBIEWOOBIES launched to post and share pictures and videos of various shoobs.^[3] As of June 2017, the page has more than 15,500 likes and 15,500 followers.

On July 4th, 2016, Urban Dictionary user Meme Princess posted a definition of "Shoob" (shown below).^[4] They wrote, "A fluffy, cloud-like dog such as a Samoyed."

On February 26th, 2017, Redditor SirEugene posted a picture of a dog biting a shoob on the face (shown below, left) in a thread titled "fren pls DO NOT munch me" in the /r/rarepuppers subreddit. The post received more than 1,400 points (99% upvoted).^[5]
