Shia LaBeouf's Paper Bag is a photoshop-based meme derived from a series of exploitable images of American actor and director Shia LaBeouf wearing a paper bag over his head while attending a film festival in Berlin. The act itself also became a target of online parody.

Origin

In December 2013, Shia LaBeouf and his work came under significant media scrutiny after bloggers began noticing similarities between his newly released short film, Howard Cantour.com, and the 2007 comic Justin M. Damiano by cartoonist Dan Clowes.^[1] LaBeouf soon admitted that he had plagiarized Clowes' work and apologized profusely in a series of tweets.

On February 9th, 2014, LaBeouf attended the Berlin Film Festival in Germany with a brown paper bag over his head, with the words "I am not famous anymore" written on it.^[2]

The Twitter community promptly to responded LaBeouf's bizarre fashion statement by photoshopping his head into scenes and posters of movies he had worked on, particularly the Transformers series, turning his paper bag into an exploitable image.^[3]

Many Twitter users, looking to mock his new-found reputation of being a plagiarist, also made tongue-in-cheek accusations that he had stolen the idea of wearing a paper bag mask
