On May 10th, 2018 Twitter account @yourfaveisbald2[2] tweeted the image of Mario without his trademark mustache or his eyebrows, gaining over 430 retweets and 1,100 likes (shown below).

On May 13th, 2018, Twitter user @november17[1] reposted the image and went viral, gaining over 43,000 retweets and 137,000 likes (shown below). After the tweet was posted, many Twitter users responded to the picture with horror. Twitter user and IGN writer/producer Alanah Pearce tweeted I don't want to live on this planet anymore, gaining over 950 retweets (shown below, left). Popular Weird Twitter user @pattymo tweeted "Calling the police," gaining over 2,000 retweets (shown below, right).



Twitter user @tinysubversions added to the joke by drawing hair on the shaved Mario, gaining over 70 retweets and 620 likes (shown below, left). Twitter user @Author_MShaver tweeted a GIF of Luigi looking horrified, gaining 40 retweets and 820 likes (shown below, right). The reactions also gained a significant amount of media attention.
