Shaggy's Power is a series of image macros and photoshops depicting the character Shaggy Rogers as a god-like being with immense power. While initially stemming from Ultra Instinct Shaggy, images joking about the character using only a small percentage of his power to perform various incredible feats began trending within various meme-themed subreddits in January 2019.

Origin

On April 1st, 2018, DeviantArtist Nekroz-of-Mokey submitted a script for an Ultra Instinct Shaggy comedy sketch titled "Shaggy Rogers vs. Madara Uchiha," in which Shaggy Rogers says “This isn’t even 1% of 1% of 1% of my power, kid.”

On July 19th, 2018, Redditor pizzazzle18 uploaded a video clip of Shaggy single handedly defeated a gang of thugs to /r/BossFight.[13] In the comments section, Redditor muffler_kek replied "'Like, you only made me use 10% of my power man'." Prior to being archived, the comment gathered upwards of 640 points. On November 2nd, 2018, Redditor narwhal-lord14 posted a captioned image of Shaggy with a photoshopped katana with the caption "Like, not bad man… You made me use 10% of my power" (shown below, left). Within three months, the post gained 3,100 upvotes on the /r/Bossfight[11] subreddit.

On January 5th, 2019, an anonymous 4chan[2] user posted a greentext story based on the image macro to the /b/ board on 4chan. On January 6th, Redditor matthewoliveira posted the screenshot of the thread to the /r/greentext[3] subreddit. Within 48 hours, the post gained over 2,000 upvotes.

On January 13th, Redditor[4] roaringdoom made a post to /r/ShitPostCrusaders subreddit in which Shaggy was portrayed as a character from JoJo's Bizzare Adventure anime. On the same day, Redditor[5] DarkHorse786 posted an edited Superman comic panel in which the superhero begged Shaggy for mercy to /r/dankmemes subreddit. The posts gained over 4,000 and 2,100 upvotes in five days, respectively.

On January 16th, Twitter[6] user @GnarlyBuster posted a Sasuke Choke Edit referring to the Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme. The post received over 5,100 retweets and 13,535 likes in two days. On the same day, Redditor ItsZekrom posted a screenshot of the tweet to /r/dankmemes[7] subreddit, where it gained over 39,200 upvotes in the same period.

In the coming days, more posts using various images of Shaggy were posted across a number of subreddits, including /r/dankmemes[15], /r/thanosdidnothingwrong[16] and /r/pewdiepiesubmissions[17]. On January 17th, the /r/BadAssShaggy[16] subreddit was launched for meme related to Shaggy's Power, garnering upwards of 22,400 subscribers within 11 days. Many of the jokes on the subreddit use re-subbed still shots from interviews with the actors of the 2002 film Scooby-Doo The Movie.

On January 27th, the parody site Woken News Network launched a petition on Change.org[12] titled "Make Shaggy A DLC In Mortal Kombat 11," which gathered upwards of 58,700 signatures in 24 hours.

That day, actor Matthew Lillard tweeted[15] a link to the /r/BadAssShaggy subreddit, along with the message "Dear universe. Please never let this end" (shown below). Over the next 24 hours, the tweet received more than 6,100 likes and 1,400 retweets.
