Shadow Wizard Money Gang, continued We Love Casting Spells, is one of Dj Smokey's producer tags, used in the Joeyy song "Gout," released in early December 2022. The producer tag, which is similar to the "legalize nuclear bombs" tag also popularized by Joeyy, went viral on TikTok in January 2023 when it was paired with a clip of a TikToker saying "masturbation is a form of witchcraft." In May 2023, the meme spawned a fan art trend on Twitter akin to Wizardposting. The tag actually belongs to Canadian producer Louka Tessier, who allows Smokey to use them.

Origin

On December 2nd, 2022, Joeyy released the music video for his song "Gout" on YouTube,^[1] garnering over 267,000 views in a month. At the start of the song, a deep voice says, "Shadow wizard money gang, we love casting spells. This song is sponsored by the shadow government."

The part of the song featuring the producer tag started to become popularized on TikTok that month in lip-dub videos. One of the earliest examples was uploaded by TikToker^[2] @dudegetoffmylawn on December 22nd, 2022, garnering over 152,000 views in a month (shown below).

Masturbation Is a Form of Witchcraft Edits

Sometime in November 2022, TikToker @thatjesusgeneration posted a now-deleted video claiming that masturbation is a form of witchcraft. It was reuploaded to TikTok^[3] by @dreamsnpoetry on November 22nd, 2022, garnering over 190,000 views in two months. On January 1st, 2023, TikToker^[4] @mike_literus690 posted a video that begins with the clip of @thatjesusgeneration saying "masturbation is a form of witchcraft" followed by himself lip dubbing to the "shadow wizard money gang" tag, garnering over 928,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

The video inspired multiple others following the same format, where the @thatjesusgeneration clip plays, often followed by images or videos of wizards. For example, on January 8th, 2023, TikToker^[5] @gremlino posted a video like this, garnering over 1.2 million views in a week (shown below, left). On January 11th, TikToker^[6] @infernal.alchemy posted a similar video, garnering over 1.3 million views in six days (shown below, right).

Fan Art

On May 23rd, 2023, Twitter^[7] user @RE_Thinkin posted a simplistic drawing (drawn by user @jarlungus^[9]) of a wizard dressed in a purple robe and wearing jewelry and with his face obscured with shadow from his hood, captioning the image, "shadow wizard money gang" (shown below). The image gained over 2,000 retweets and 16,800 likes in ten days.

The image inspired a fan art trend on Twitter as other users depicted Shadow Wizard Money Gang as bejeweled wizards wearing robes with hoods, building upon @jarlungus's design. For example, on May 31st, 2023, Twitter^[8] user @dudesurfgg posted an artwork that gained over 5,800 retweets and 42,500 likes in two days (shown below, left). On June 1st, 2023, Twitter user @Avovet3D posted a 3D render that earned over 4,200 retweets and 32,100 likes in one day (shown below, right).
