About

SFW Artists Posting About OCs vs. NSFW Artists Posting About OCs refers to memes and jokes about a single-panel webcomic showing a "SFW" artist holding up a painting of the Mona Lisa they made but getting fewer likes than the NSFW artist for posting their original characters. The image saw viral redraws and meme edits on X / Twitter in October 2024 and led to people joking about how "Art Twitter" often rehashes the same arguments. The meme is similar to the 600 vs. 15 Likes comic that saw ironic use in the early 2020s.

Origin

On October 16th, 2024, Twitter / X user @sanestsusan[1] posted a webcomic showing a "SFW" artist holding up a Mona Lisa but getting fewer likes than an NSFW artist gets for posting their own OC (original character) depicted as a large-chested woman. The post gathered over 50,000 likes in a day.

Spread

Several X users criticized the post for being reductive and for supposedly pitting artists against each other as it spread on the platform over the following days. The post also received criticism from some for being emblematic of cyclical "drama" in the Twitter artist community.

On October 17th, 2024, X[2] user @Lunarsunstars posted a video joking about how repetitive Twitter art discourse can be, gathering over 37,000 plays in a day.

On October 17th, X[3] user @JMF_Drawings posted a version of @sanestsusan's art, adding a character titled, "Some idiot putting artists against each other for no reason." The post gathered over 100,000 likes in a day.

Also on October 17th, 2024, X[4] user @MegaChanRevival posted a version of the meme with the NSFW artist replaced with a low-poly version of Luigi, gathering over 58,000 likes in a day.

Later on October 17th, X[5] user @Friezas_Brother posted a version of the meme with an edit featuring Cooler, Frieza's brother from Dragon Ball Z. The post gathered over 2,000 likes in a day.
