Sex Speedruns or Sex% is a humorous catogery of Meme Speedruns which involves the player having sex in a video game as fast as possible. Popularized by YouTuber tomatoanus and his Fallout sex speedruns, the category has maintained niche presence in speedrunning community.

Origin

On August 23rd, 2017, speedrunner and YouTuber tomatoanus uploaded a video titled Fallout 4 Sex% Speedrun in 11:59 in which they speedran the 2015 role-playing video game Fallout 4 to the point where the protagonist has sex in less than 12 minutes. The upload (shown below) received over 950,000 views on YouTube^[1] in six years.

In the following years, tomatoanus continued to upload sex% speedruns of various video games, mainly various installments of the Fallout series. For example, on February 2nd, 2019, the YouTuber^[2] uploaded a sex% speedrun for all five main installments of Fallout games which received over 2.4 million views in four years (shown below, left). On December 21st, 2020, tomatoanus uploaded^[3] a sex% speedrun of Cyberpunk 2077 that received over 920,000 views in the same period (shown below, right). These, and later other sex% categories, were also added to Speedrun.com.^[4]^[5]

Starting in 2020, other speedrunners, most notably those uploading content to YouTube, posted sex% speedruns of various games. For example, on June 23rd, 2020, YouTuber^[6] ScottFalco uploaded a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild speedrun in which he spedrun to the dialogue during which Link presumably sleeps with Paya. On August 1st, 2020, YouTuber^[7] SmallAnt uploaded a speedrun in the category, with the video gaining over 5.3 million views in three years.

In August 2023, following the release of the role-playing video game Baldur's Gate 3, sex% speedrunning the game achieved popularity: for example, on August 13th, 2023, speedrunner Mae uploaded a video of them reaching a sex cutscene in 10 minutes and 3 seconds. The video (shown below) gained over 440,000 views on YouTube^[8] in five days.

In the following days, PC Gamer,^[9] Kotaku^[10] and other media reported on the sex% category in Baldur's Gate 3 speedrunning, assisting its popularization.
