The Seven Souls, also written Seven SOULs, refers to the seven traits that make up a SOUL in the Undertale video game franchise. They are Patience, Bravery, Integrity, Perseverance, Kindness, Justice and Determination. They're represented by different colored hearts, varying from cyan, orange, blue, purple, green, yellow and red. The Seven Souls became a notable meme after a fan-made song went viral that described each Soul, using an instrumental Toby Fox song that was posted to YouTube in 2017. In 2024, Seven Souls videos, memes and edits surfaced en masse on TikTok when people made AI covers of the song using AI-generated voices, additionally pairing characters and celebrities with each corresponding Soul and coloring them according to the Soul's color.

Origin

The origin of SOULs in the Undertale universe stems from seven children who were trapped underground beneath the Barrier, killing them but maintaining their souls.^[1][2] The Seven SOULs and their corresponding colors are:

• Patience – Cyan
• Bravery – Orange
• Integrity – Blue
• Perseverance – Purple
• Kindness – Green
• Justice – Yellow
• Determination – Red

Although many have identified the seventh soul as "Determination," it is ultimately unconfirmed in the game.^[2]

Fan art of the Seven Souls started to surface on websites like DeviantArt^[3] in 2016. However, the later meme trend that manifested in videos started with a video posted by YouTuber^[4] Lady Anime on December 19th, 2017, called "Finale – The Traits of Seven (Fan Song/Vocal Cover)." The video sang about the Seven Souls to the tune of the Toby Fox song "Finale," receiving over 4.4 million views in seven years (shown below).

In the following years, others on YouTube made their own animations with the song, like YouTuber^[5] ShiYa on August 22nd, 2021, receiving over 772,000 views in three years (shown below).

On March 19th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @trizzyd posted a video that showed "the seven birbs," as each Soul, set to Toby Fox's "Finale," receiving over 1.1 million plays and 171,200 likes in a week (shown below, left).

Also on March 19th, TikToker^[7] @.plerson_ posted a similar meme using images of Baldi, gaining over 492,900 plays and 66,200 likes in a week (shown below, right).

AI voice covers of the Seven Souls song following the same visual format also surfaced in March 2024, evident in a video posted by TikToker^[8] @chuckaidubs on March 21st, 2024, that used the voices of characters from Bluey, gaining over 278,900 plays and 28,100 likes in five days (shown below).
