About

#SetethSays is a hashtag used to create parodies of the character Seteth in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It is also known as Boomer Seteth. In the game, Seteth is initially cold towards the player character, and gives them quests and tasks. Parodies have used the image with which Seteth gives these tasks as an exploitable, writing dialogue about absurd problems in the character's voice. The meme grew more popular when Seteth's voice actor, Mark Whitten, read several examples on Twitter.

Spread

Over the following several days, other Twitter users made variations on the joke, using a template provided by @WeinieChaser.[2] Popular examples include posts by @KendanKip,[3] which gained over 950 retweets and 1,800 likes (shown below, left), and @Smelly_katarina,[4] which gained over 550 retweets and 1,200 likes (shown below, right).

In response to the growing popularity of the jokes, Seteth voice actor Mark Whitten began responding to some of the popular tweets by doing readings in the character's voice. He provided readings for @WeinieCheeser's original tweet (shown below, top) and a tweet by @Beefsoundmagnus, who first posted the image used in @Smelly_katarina's tweet (shown below, bottom). The jokes were covered by Kotaku[5] and Polygon.[6] It has also grown popular on Fire Emblem subreddits.[7][8]
