Send Tweet is a common catchphrase on Twitter generally made after a pun or bad joke. The phrase is meant as a self-deprecating acknowledgement that the preceding tweet isn't high quality.
Origin
While the exact first tweet to use "Send Tweet" in this way is unclear, early examples can be found during the fall of 2014. User @imteddybless tweeted such a joke on November 10th, 2014 (shown below, left), and again on December 15th (shown below, right).
Spread
Over the course of the following several years, the phrase began more use as a way for users to acknowledge their bad jokes. Some examples of tweets like this include a post by @vogon on June 26th, 2018 referencing a recent controversy involving the We Rate Dogs account, gaining over 230 retweets and 980 likes (shown below, left). Another tweet that day by user @beardjones gained 12 retweets and 50 likes (shown below, right).
The phrase is also used in stan culture, generally used when a person is acknowledging their own gushing post towards their idols. For example, a post by user @peterquillsl shipping Thor and Star Lord from the Marvel Cinematic Universe gained over 810 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below, left). Another by user @crankuniverse about actor Jesse Williams gained over 160 retweets and 500 likes (shown below, right). The spread of the phrase was inquired about on /r/OutOfTheLoop[1] on August 26th, 2017.
