Send Dudes is a comedic typo of the catchphrase "Send Nudes" that makes it sound as if the person wants men sent their way. The phrase became the increasing subject of memes in 2016, often shared in the context of fake text messages where the sender genuinely asks for men for a variety of reasons, the recipient assuming it's a typo at first.

Origin

The phrase "send dudes" has been the subject of memes as a comedic typo of "send nudes" since as early as 2016, though the exact first is unknown. For example, on December 12th, 2016, Facebook[1] user EmoDad666 posted a fake text message using the typo, gaining over 130 likes and 100 shares in six years. On December 14th, iFunny[2] user posted another fake text string using the phrase where the recipient assumes it's a typo but it's not, gaining over 30 smiles in roughly the same span of time (shown below).

Spread

On February 20th, 2018, a now-deleted Redditor posted a fake text string to /r/dankmemes[3] using the phrase, saying they want to see "them thicc ass homies," gaining over 3,100 upvotes in four years (shown below).

On December 23rd, 2019, Facebook[4] page Useless Talk posted a meme using the phrase where the recipient assumes it's a typo but it's a genuine request for more men to help in a fight, gaining over1,400 reactions and 1,200 shares in just over two years (shown below, left). On January 10th, 2020, Redditor Jakecubfox posted a version of the joke as a fake text chat to /r/Tinder,[5] gaining over 32,000 upvotes in two years. On February 8th, Facebook[6] user Sheet posting posted a similar version using dark mode, gaining over 260 shares and 200 likes in a similar span of time (shown below, right). The dark mode version was shared to /r/dankmemes[7] the next day, gaining over 49,000 upvotes in two years.

The dark mode text string became popular in image macros in the following months, often attached to imagery suggesting men are on their way. For example, on March 3rd and September 20th, Facebook[8] and Instagram[9] pages Lord of The Rings Rocks My World and nochillrick shared memes using the image with Lord of the Rings reaction images, gaining over 8,900 reactions and 6,700 shares and 64,000 likes respectively in roughly two years (shown below, left and right).

The text messages from the dark mode text string became an exploitable in 2021 as users pasted them into memes as if spoken by characters from various media franchises. For example, on March 6th, 2021, Facebook[10] page Devil May Cry – Meme Trigger posted a Devil May Cry meme using the texts, gaining over 1,700 reactions in a year (shown below).

On December 15th, 2021, Instagram[11] user genshinuniverse posted a version of the meme using Genshin Impact characters, gaining over 41,000 likes in three months (shown below, left). On March 23rd, Twitter[12] user @berserksouls posted a version using Elden Ring characters Ranni and Blaidd, gaining over 123,000 likes and 16,000 retweets in two days (shown below, right). It was reposted to the 9gag Instagram[13] page the next day, gaining over 743,000 likes in a day.
