Senator Facemorph or Senator Face Morph refers to two images in which all 50 Democratic and all 50 Republican U.S. senators have been face morphed into one via the FaceApp application. Posted on Twitter in late April 2022, the images achieved viral spread and were used in memes as an exploitable in the following days.

Origin

On April 23rd, 2022, Twitter^[1][2] user @_sn_n posted two images in which he used FaceApp, a photo-editing application that uses neural networks to apply various effects to uploaded photos, to create face morphs of all 50 Democratic and all 50 Republican United States Senators. The posts received over 3,600 retweets and 64,300 likes and 10,000 retweets and 166,400 likes in 10 days, respectively, before being used in other memes on Twitter shortly after (shown below, left and right).

Spread

On April 23rd, 2022, Twitter^[3] user @shitbiscuit posted the earliest found humorous post based on the image, pairing it with an older caricature. The tweet (shown below, left) received over 300 retweets and 3,400 likes in 10 days. Later on the same day, YouTuber shoe0nhead tweeted^[4] the images, pairing them with a political cartoon by Tim Kreider. The post gained over 15,100 retweets and 181,400 likes in 10 days (shown below, right).

Also on April 23rd, Twitter^[5] user @proustmalone tweeted the images, writing, "This is the most important election of our lifetimes." The post gained over 15,100 retweets and 181,400 likes in 10 days. On April 24th, Tumblr^[6] user gsirvator posted the face morphs, as well as an additional face morph combining the two super-senators (shown below, right). The post received over 11,200 likes and reblogs in nine days.

In late April 2022, the images were used as source material for memes and parodies, primarily on Twitter and Reddit.
