SDIYBT is a catchphrase and slang acronym for Start Digging In Yo Butt, Twin, a reference to the Digging in Yo Butt meme that was popularized online in late June and July 2025. The acronym was popularized in mid-July 2025 after an edit of a SpongeBob SquarePants scene in which a robotic version of SpongeBob tells Plankton, "Start digging in yo butt, twin," was posted on TikTok. The acronym quickly began to spread as a slang term and meme, inspiring animations, lip dubs and more. The term also spread to Instagram that month, inspiring similar videos and image macros.
Origin
Between May and July 2025, memes using the catchphrase "Digging in yo butt" were popularized on sites including X / Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, inspired by a 2019 image macro featuring rapper NBA YoungBoy.
On July 4th, 2025, TikToker[1] @oe._ytv1 posted an edit of a scene from SpongeBob SquarePants season two, episode 34a, titled "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," in which Plankton tells a robot with SpongeBob's brain in it to make him a Krabby Patty. In the edit, the robot says, "Start digging in yo butt twin," and Plankton yells, "What?!" The post gained over 350,000 views in just under two weeks.
Spread
The meme became increasingly popularized in mid-July 2025 as TikTokers shortened the phrase to the acronym "SDIYBT" and began using the original sound in memes and videos.
For example, on July 14th, 2025, TikToker[2] @noahjoearmstrong posted a video lip syncing to the audio, garnering over 394,000 views in three days.
On July 15th, TikToker[3] @elbappogod9 posted a meme using the audio over the caption, "Trying to lock in with the boys on the game after a loss," garnering over 411,000 views in a day. The video uses the hashtag "#SDIYBT."
Later that day, TikToker[4] @sunaisswagg posted a video tagged "#SDIYBT" in which they lip sync to the audio under the caption, "I fear this will be a new vocal stim," garnering over 381,000 views in under 24 hours.
