Sassy Man Apocalypse refers to a catchphrase first coined on X and subsequently shared on TikTok. After Twitter user @yattadondada made a post that read, "We in a sassy man apocalypse," various TikTokers began sharing videos showing their "sassy" boyfriends, typically showcasing them displaying feminine or "sassy" behaviors. These videos, which were generally captioned "victim of the sassy man Apocalypse," went viral in late July and August 2023.
Origin
On August 22nd, 2022, X[1] (formerly Twitter) user @yattadondada made a post that read, "We in a sassy man apocalypse," gathering over 35,000 likes in a year (seen below).
Spread
Some early adopters of the phrase "sassy man apocalypse" on TikTok were TikToker[2] @ponpontoes on October 18th, 2022, and TikToker[3] @andie_perez, whose June 15th, 2023 video containing the phrase gathered over 2 million views and 450,000 likes in two months (seen below, left). A June 25th, 2023 TikTok[4] posted by @trshmag discussed the topic of "sassy men apocalypse" as well, gathering over 1 million views in two months (seen below, right).
"Victim Of The Sassy Man Apocalypse"
In late July and August 2023, various TikTokers began making humorous videos calling themselves "victims" of the "sassy man apocalypse," with TikToker[5] @111.raquel posting the earliest known video on July 30th, 2023, gathering over 2 million views in a month (seen below, left). On August 5th, 2023, TikToker[6] @selena.kun posted a video following the trend, gathering over 9.1 million views in a month (seen below, right).
