Sasha is a fictional character from the Animal Crossing video game series published by Nintendo. The character first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and was added into the game in November 2021 as a part of the 2.0 update. Sasha is a male rabbit character wearing a blue letterman jacket with the fashion hobby. Following the announcement of the character, Sasha achieved significant popularity in the Animal Crossing community both in memes and fan art.

Origin

On October 15th, 2021, a Nintendo Direct broadcast revealed[1] details of the upcoming 2.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizon. At the end of the broadcast, Series 5 of the Animal Crossing Amiboo cards for 16 new villagers were revealed, among them Sasha, a rabbit villager (video and screenshot shown below).

The character was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on November 5th, 2021, as a part of the 2.0 update along with 15 other new and returning villagers.[2]

Sasha is a lazy rabbit villager and is the only male villager to have the fashion hobby. His official description in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp mobile game describes him as a big fan of selfies.

Starting on October 15th, 2021, Animal Crossing fans posted their fan art of the new villager, with many assuming that the character was female. For example, a drawing of anthropomorphic versions of villagers Sasha and Shino by Twitter[3] user @MILKURIEM received over 3,100 retweets and 12,400 likes in three weeks (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter[4] user @Mewgle posted a fan art that gained over 180 retweets and 1,000 likes (shown below, center).

Following the release of the update, the character saw a major surge as the subject of fan art, both SFW and NSFW, as well as in memes. On November 5th, 2021, Twitter[5] user @tiffanycrosses posted two screenshots of Sasha speaking about Tom Nook, writing, "sasha is spitting." The post received over 7,800 retweets and 49,400 likes in five days (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter[6] user @bunhearts posted fan art of the villager that gained over 5,400 retweets and 29,000 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

The character maintained major prominence within the Animal Crossing community in the following days as Sasha became the subject of additional memes and fan art.
