Sandman Throws Spider-Man refers to a sequence from the 2023 video game Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in which the character Sandman grabs Spider-Man and hurls him over a vast distance across the city, with Spider-Man flying through a skyscraper. In mid-October 2023, the clip was posted on X / Twitter, becoming source material for caption memes.

Origin

On October 16h, 2023, YouTube^[1] channel Digital Foundry posted a review of the 2023 action-adventure video game Marvel's Spider-Man. In one part of the video, a cutscene in which character Sandman hurls the protagonist Miles Morales / Spider-Man over a vast distance of cityscape, sending Spider-Man flying at a large speed and with the character going through a skyscraper before managing to stop (shown below).

Later that day, X^[2] / Twitter user @NebsGoodTakes posted a GIF based on the clip, with the post gaining over 5,200 reposts and 39,100 likes in two days (shown below).

Spread

On the same day, the clip saw viral spread on X as as users captioned it. For example, on October 16th, tweleb^[3] @upblissed captioned the clip, "a PS4 would turn into an air fryer tryna run this game," with the post garnering over 8,900 reposts and 149,000 likes on X in two days (shown below).

Later on October 16th, 2023, X^[4] user @The_GM_is_God posted another GIF caption meme, writing, "People under 5'6'' after a light breeze." The post (shown below) received over 1,000 reposts and 17,700 likes in two days (shown below).
