About

Ruth Screaming "If You Wanna Stop Me You're Gonna Have To Fucking Kill Me" or Julia Garner Screaming refers to a scene from Ozark season four episode seven where Julia Garner, playing Ruth Langmore, screams at Marty Byrde that he'll have to kill her if he wants to stop her from going and killing Javi, his boss, after she finds her brother dead. The scene became a popular lip dub sound on TikTok in February 2022, used in jokes about refusing to do something.

Origin

On January 21st, 2022, Netflix dropped the first seven episodes of Ozark season four, the final season, to Netflix. In the seventh episode, Ruth's brother Wyatt marries Darlene, a heroin producer. Shortly after the marriage they return home and are both killed by Javi, the heir to the cartel throne, who previously asked them to stop selling heroin. Ruth arrives at the house and finds them dead. She then goes to Marty's house, who works for the cartel, with a gun and tells him what happened and that she plans on killing Javi, saying she'll kill Marty if he tries to stop her (shown below).

On January 25th, TikToker[1] @schmools posted the clip of Ruth screaming the line with a caption reading, "when he says we shouldn't rescue another dog," gaining over 1.1 million views in a month (shown below).

Spread

In February, the original sound saw increased use in lip dub skits on TikTok where users make jokes about not wanting to stop doing something, inspiring over 21,000 videos by February 18th. On February 5th, TikToker[5] @notsostella posted a video of their dog using the sound as if telling it to stop chewing shoes, gaining over 4.6 million views in two weeks (shown below).

On February 11th, TikTokers[3][4] @jennypopach and @tayrosen posted video using the sound, gaining over 5.5 million and 1.4 million views respectively in a week (shown below, left and right). On February 18th, the Daily Dot[2] published a piece on the TikTok trend.
