About
The RompHim is a clothing product for men that resembles a romper, a clothing product that covers both the top and crotch area and has typically been worn by women. After it received exposure in the media, it generated discussion on social media between those who thought it was an attractive idea and those who hated it.
Origin
The romphim is a product of ACED Design, who began promoting their product on Instagram on April 9th, 2017.[1]
The group used the Instagram to promote their product at various events such as Coachella and the Kentucky Derby in the following month. On May 15th, they went live with a Kickstarter campaign,[2] setting a $10,000 goal to put the Romphim in production. In less than one day, the group had exceeded their goal by $50,000.
Spread
The RompHim was immediately met with backlash from the media. Esquire[3] published an article about the RompHim titled "The Bro Romper Exists and I Don't Want to Live on This Planet Anymore." The Independent[4] published an article called "RompHim: The Ridiculous Kickstarter Trying to Make Male Playsuits a Thing." CBS News ran a segment on the RompHim the next day.
Meanwhile, social media users were more mixed in their reactions. While some thought it looked ridiculous, many made jokes conceding they found it attractive.
