Robot Suit Zendaya, also known as Zendaya Silver Suit or Cyborg Zendaya, refers to viral photographs of actress Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman dressed in a futuristic robot suit at the premiere of Dune: Part Two in London in mid-February 2024. Online, the images of the actress in fashion designer Thierry Mugler's see-through outfit sparked jokes, memes and discussions, some drawing comparisons to other pop culture figures like C-3PO.

Origin

On February 15th, 2024, Zendaya attended the premiere of Dune: Part Two in London wearing a vintage chrome robot suit.^[1] The suit was originally designed by French fashion designer Thierry Mugler for his Fall 1995 collection. The suit is the original design and not a replica.

On that day, Variety posted a photograph of Zendaya and her co-star Timothée Chalamet at the premiere on X^[2] / Twitter. The post (shown below) received over 6,000 reposts and 18,000 likes in one day.

Several minutes later, X^[3] user @saintdoII made a post about Zendaya's suit, explaining its importance in fashion history. The post (shown below) garnered over 11,000 reposts and 60,000 likes in one day.

Spread

Following the initial posts, Zendaya's suit, and an apparent mismatch between Zendaya's and Chalamet's chosen outfits, became the subject of numerous jokes and memes on social media.

On February 15th, 2024, X^[4] user @AriWRees quoted the photograph of Zendaya standing next to Chalamet, commenting, "It’s giving R2 and C-3PO lost in the desert." The post (shown below, left) received over 4,300 reposts and 59,000 likes in one day.

Also on February 15th, X^[5] user @SUNNI_MONSTER quoted the post, writing, "Zendaya is absolutely someone you call to see what’s she’s wearing b4 you get ready." The quote post received over 4,700 reposts and 67,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).

More jokes and memes about the suit followed in subsequent hours as the photos continued to spread online.
