Robe Batman

Robe Batman is an image macro series based on set photographs of the 2022 DC Comics superhero film The Batman. The pictures feature a person in the film's Batman costume wearing a black bathrobe. However, many believe that the person is not the film's star Robert Pattinson but rather a body or stunt double.

Origin

On October 13th, 2020, the celebrity news website JustJared.com^[1] published several photographs from the set of The Batman. These include the pictures of Batman in a black bathrobe (shown below).

The following day, film critic Chris Evangelista tweeted ^[2] the image with the caption "Big fan of Robe Batman." The tweet received more than 3,900 likes and 700 retweets in less than two days (shown below).

Spread

On October 14th, 2020, the image continued to spread. That day, Redditor RollTheCreditsNow shared the image in the /r/photoshopbattles ^[3] subreddit. Some replied with image edits of Robe Batman, including a version in which the author placed the character in other films (example below, left).

Throughout the day, people continued to share memes of the image. For example, Twitter^[4] user @InsaneLetterbox shared a two-panel meme of the Robe Batman and Tracksuit Robert Pattinson. They captioned, "𝕴𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊 𝖞𝖔𝖚 𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊 𝖆𝖗𝖊 𝖙𝖜𝖔 𝖜𝖔𝖑𝖛𝖊𝖘." The tweet received more than 9,500 likes and 1,200 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, center). Twitter^[5] user@ cowboyclickbait tweeted, "1 am post Batman robe smoking." The tweet received more than 200 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
