Road Work Ahead refers to a popular vine by Drew Gooden. In the video, Gooden sees a sign that says "Road Work Ahead," and says, "Road work ahead? Uh, yeah, I sure hope it does!", as though he interpreted the sign to read "Road works ahead." The vine has been popularly quoted, used as a snowclone, and as a reaction image, particularly on Twitter and Tumblr.

On March 20th, 2016, Drew Gooden posted the Vine, gaining over 127,000 revines and 10 million loops (shown below).


Spread

Over the following years, the vine became one of the most popular on the platform, and was popularly quoted social media. For example, on March 26th, 2018, Twitter user @dracomallfoys[1] quoted it in a tweet that gained over 41,000 retweets and 7,600 likes (shown below, left). User @702Austin[2] posted the joke on March 4th, 2019 with a reaction image of Michael Scott, gaining over 32,000 retweets and 130,000 likes (shown below, right).


The image of Gooden's face after saying the line became shorthand for "I sure hope it does" on Tumblr. For example, on May 29th, 2018, Tumblr user alesbianvampire used it with the caption "But antidepressants changes your brain chemistry!", gaining over 150,000 notes (shown below, left). User all-that-slithers gained over 80,000 notes with a similar post posted May 1st, 2018 (shown below, right).
