After images of the then-pregnant singer dipping her mango in the waters of Galveston Beach in Barbados went viral in April 2022, many of her fans posted memes and jokes about falling sick after copying her moves. In April 2024, the meme saw renewed attention after X / Twitter account @RoatansFinest posted a video showing a woman dipping her mango in the water at the beach, inspiring other internet users to make jokes about dipping their local delicacies into the regional waterbody.

Origin

On April 19th, 2022, images and videos of a pregnant Rihanna vacationing in Barbados with her husband A$AP Rocky went viral online. In the photos, Rihanna can be seen holding an orange and dipping it into the ocean water at the beach before eating it.

X^[1] user @gabgonebad posted an image grid that gathered over 280,000 likes in two years, alongside a caption that read, "… because in Barbados we take our fruits to the ocean and soak them,” she insists. “Trust me, it really is a thing." – Rihanna for Vogue."

Soon after the image went viral, internet users posted jokes warning each other against dipping anything in the waters of Galveston Beach in Barbados and eating it. X^[2] user @RSLE713 posted a blurry image of a hospital monitor, writing, "DO NOT DIP YOUR MANGO IN THE GALVESTON WATER," and gathering over 52,000 likes in two years (seen below, left).

Also on April 28th, X^[3] user @bbyfathr posted an image clutching his stomach, writing, "me after dipping my mango in Galveston water trying to be like Rihanna," and gathering over 1,000 likes in two years (seen below, right).

On April 24th, 2022, X^[4] user @RoatansFinest posted an image of a woman dipping her mango into the waters at a beach in Roatan, Honduras, gathering over 68,000 likes in two years (seen below, right).

Dipping My Regional Delicacy In The Local Waterbody

Internet users also began posting jokes about dipping foods from their towns and cities in the local waterbody. On April 28th, 2022, X^[5] user @memegodmel quoted the video, writing, "just dipped my birria taco in the six flags wave pool," and gathering over 50,000 likes in two years (seen below, left).

Also on April 28th, X^[6] user @seynique wrote, "dipping an italian beef in lake Michigan," gathering over 100,000 likes in two years (seen below, right).
