Riddler's "No, No, No, No, No!" refers to a clip from the 2022 superhero film The Batman in which the main villain The Riddler (portrayed by Paul Dano) starts screeching in response to Batman calling him a "pathetic psychopath begging for attention." Starting in early March 2022, the clip gained virality on TikTok and Twitter as a reaction video and source material for video caption memes.

Origin

On March 4th, 2022, the superhero film The Batman premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, the protagonist Batman confronts the main villain The Riddler in Arkham Asylum, accusing him of being a pathetic psychopath begging for attention and telling him that he is going to die alone. To this, The Riddler, played by Paul Dano, reacts by repeatedly screaming "no," and telling him that this was not how he envisioned their encounter (clip shown below).

- You're a pathetic psychopath begging for attention. You're gonna die alone in here!
- No! No no no no no!
- A nobody!
- Noo! Ahhhhhhhhh! This is not how it was supposed to go! Ahhh! I had it all planned out. We were gonna be safe here. We could watch the whole thing together.

On March 3rd, 2022, TikToker[2] @chloe.cartwright first uploaded the clip of The Riddler screaming, with the video gaining over 136,400 views and 8,200 likes in one month (shown below).

The clip gained initial virality on TikTok in early March 2022. For example, on March 7th, 2022, TikToker[3] @lmaohamish posted a The Riddler fancam that started with the clip and gained over 458,000 views and 64,400 likes in one month (shown below, left). On March 8th, TikToker[4] @onlyholiday3 posted a video caption meme that accumulated over 156,000 views and 17,800 likes (shown below, center). On March 9th, TikToker[5] @spooder.man.mcu posted a video caption that received over 44,300 views and 7,200 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On March 10th, 2022, Twitter[6] gimmick account @riddlerquotebot tweeted Riddler's dialogue, with the post gaining over 2,000 retweets and 14,100 likes in roughly one month (shown below).

On March 13th, 2022, Twitter[7] user @SavinTheBees captioned the clip with a joke about Elden Ring players. The post gained 380 retweets and over 3,200 likes in one month (shown below).

The clip maintained prominence in the following memes, with more video caption memes appearing on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.
