Revolver Ocelot is a recurring antagonist in the action stealth game series Metal Gear. On image boards and discussion forums, the character is often referenced in the form of demotivational images.

Origin

In the game Metal Gear Solid, originally released on September 3rd, 1998, the protagonist Solid Snake is greeted by the antagonist Revolver Ocelot^[7] during a rescue mission (shown below).

On April 16th, 2009, a 4chan^[4] user submitted a demotivational image of Revolver Ocelot to the /a/ (anime and manga) board (shown below).

Spread

On October 27th, 2010, YouTuber Egoraptor uploaded a cartoon in which Revolver Ocelot discusses changing his name, which gathered upwards of 1.5 million views and 2,900 comments in five years (shown below). On October 19th, 2011, YouTuber juski1000 uploaded a video in which he mimics Revolver Ocelot's gun spinning moves (shown below, right). In the first four years, the video gained over 1.4 million views and 4,600 comments.

On April 1st, 2012, the demotivational image was reposted on the /v/ (video games) board on 4chan.^[6] On April 10th, FunnyJunk user alruneia uploaded an overlapping version of the demotivational image (shown below). The following day, Imgur^[1] user SHANNERS reposted the image.
