Rehan Wangsaff or Rehan WhatsApp is a nickname given to TikToker Philip Diby, who first went viral on the app in 2020 for his dance content. That year, TikTokers began using Diby's dance clips as exploitables, cutting them into videos for comedic effect. Later that year, an Indonesian video edit of Diby dancing, referred to as "rehan 4," went viral, with some referring to Diby as "Rehan Wangsaff" or "Regan WhatsApp" afterwards, with videos edits frequently tinting Diby's skin green like the WhatsApp application.

Origin

The most commonly used memetic clip of Philip Diby dancing in sweatpants was posted to Diby's TikTok page, @philipdiby, on an unknown date in 2020 and has since been deleted. The earliest available video of him dancing was posted to TikTok[1] on August 23rd, 2020, garnering over 32 million views in three years (shown below).

Diby's dance clips became the subject of memes on TikTok that year as an exploitable, with a clip of him dancing shirtless in sweatpants becoming the most popular (examples shown below).

On October 3rd, 2020, Facebook[2] page Penggemar Bola Indonesia II (previously named Decent Dose) uploaded Diby's dancing video with low resolution, captioned, "rehan 4." The video received 265 reactions and 61 shares in two years (shown below, left). This is the earliest video that calls Diby "Rehan." On November 15th, 2020, Facebook[3] user Rehan D'amelio uploaded Diby's video with low resolution, as if it was uploaded in 2008, garnering over 8,800 reactions and 10,000 shares in two years (shown below, right).

Spread

Following the Facebook posts, Diby became known as Rehan in various edits and parodies. On December 16th, 2021, YouTuber[4] Ya Begitulah uploaded a video about Rehan's "family," titled, "Rehan Whatsapp And The Family…" garnering over 506,000 views in a year (shown below, left). On December 20th, 2021, YouTuber[5] KrizzGuy 2.0 uploaded a SpongeBob SquarePants edit of Rehan's dance, tinting him green, garnering over 102,000 views in two years (shown below, left).

Prior to this, on December 17th, 2021, Facebook[6] user Nopaleon uploaded video of himself parodying Rehan's dancing, garnering over 3,200 reactions and 917 views in two years (shown below).
