About

Reddit-chan, also known as Snooette refers to multiple Gijinka renderings of the Reddit mascot Snoo which grew popular on Reddit's /r/teenagers in July of 2019. While initially, multiple users posted the mascot as a moe anime girl, eventually users posted art of the character in many different styles.

Origin

On July 15th, 2019, Redditor molgera04[1] posted art of Reddit's /r/teenagers mascot, a Snoo wearing an orange hoodie, as a "cute anime girl," gaining over 53,000 points (shown below).

Precursor

Pieces of art depicting Reddit as a human character have appeared online before as part of the Website Anthropomorphism meme (examples shown below).

Spread

After molegera04's post in /r/teenagers, other users of the subreddit began posting art of the character. Some users posted variations of molgera04's character, creating more variations showing the Snoo as an anime girl. Examples like this include pieces by miakialia,[2] which gained over 1,700 points (shown below, left), and ScratchyLuigiPants,[3] which gained over 30,000 points (shown below, right).

Others began creating versions of the Snoo that were not anime girls. User MasonMPlays[4] posted the Snoo as a Hide the Pain Harold meme, gaining over 2,500 points (shown below, left). User Fudgenuggets04[5] posted the Snoo as Pikachu, gaining over 11,000 points (shown below, right).
