About
Receba Parodies refers to a series of reverse memes and parodies made using a picture of Brazilian influencer Luva De Pedreiro in which people add horror-themed variations of his catchphrase “Receba” ("receive" in English), replacing with words like “die,” “rot,” “suffer” and many other examples. The trend started on TikTok in January 2024, reaching virality with Brazilians as the Luva De Horror Cósmico meme in mid-March of that year.
Origin
On January 3rd, 2024, TikTok[1] user @necronlass posted a video (shown below) titled “luva de horror cósmico” in Portuguese, which translates as “Luva’s cosmic horror.” The video shows a series of photoshopped images of Brazilian influencer Luva De Pedreiro in a darker and creepier tone, replacing his catchphrase “receba” for other negative verbs that rhymes with the original phrase, like “desapareça” (disappear), “esqueça” (forget), “apodreça” (rot) and many other words. The post amassed over 318,000 plays and 53,000 likes in three months.
Spread
On January 31st, 2024, X[2] user @conheceterapia posted a thread featuring all the receba parodies he found on the internet. The post (shown below) amassed over 14,000 likes and 1,700 retweets in three months.
The cosmic horror parodies also became reaction images on X, largely being shared ironically according to the word replaced in the image. For example, on January 5th, 2024, X[3] user @arthuurpgg user shared the "emburreça" and "pereça" versions of the meme (shown below), which garnered more than 50 likes and four reposts in three months.
