Rating EAS Alarms refers to videos in which people rate or review emergency alert system (EAS) alarms from different countries, often based on how scary or effective they sound. The videos first appeared on YouTube starting around 2019, gaining in popularity over the following years and spreading to TikTok, notably by TikToker Calvin Krause.

Origin

An EAS alarm is a warning system implemented in various countries used to warn the citizens about an emergency.

On August 10th, 2019, YouTuber^[1] Dogie Fleek posted a video rating various international EAS alarms on a "creepiness" scale of 1 to 10, garnering over 1.1 million views in two years (shown below). This is the earliest known video rating EAS alarms.

Spread

The trend spread over the next few years, resulting in a number of other popular YouTube uploads rating EAS alarms. For example, on February 6th, 2021, YouTuber^[5] Pacman_1 posted a video ranking them on their scariness, garnering over 3.5 million views in five months (shown below).

On May 21st, YouTuber^[6] astroNeptune uploaded a video rating alarms, garnering over 1 million views in two months (shown below, left). On July 6th, YouTuber^[7] RNemo uploaded a comedy video rating them, garnering over 26,000 views in a week (shown below, right).

TikTok

The trend is also popular on TikTok. One of the earliest videos on TikTok rating EAS alarms was uploaded by TikToker^[4] @canadianking_5 on December 8th, 2020, rating them on an abstract 1-to-10 scale (shown below). The video gained over 498,000 views in seven months.

On December 22nd, 2020, TikToker^[3] @eeftheleafsfan uploaded a video in which she ranks them on a scale of 1-to-10 based on how anxiety-inducing they are (shown below). The video gained over 700,000 views in seven months.

On July 6th, 2021, TikToker^[2] Calvin Krause posted a video in which he comedically rates a number of international EAS alarms, garnering over 19 million views in just over a week (shown below).

Krause posted two more videos in the series on July 7th and 9th, garnering over 3.8 and 1.5 million views in roughly a week respectively (shown below, left and right).

On July 13th, Instagram^[8] page @todayyearsold posted Krause's first video, garnering over 1.6 million views in two days. On July 14th, News 18^[9] published a story on Klause's videos.
