Ralph Wiggum Diving Through Window refers to a memorable moment from the American animated sitcom The Simpsons in which the character Ralph Wiggum is shown crashing through the Simpson's living room window.
Origin
On May 18th, 2003, the episode of The Simpsons "The Bart of War" aired in the United States. In the episode, a character writes a note on Ralph (voiced by Nancy Cartwright) and throws him through a window (clip below). When Ralph is discovered by the family, Ralph says, "I'm a brick!"[1]
Spread
About a decade later, on June 14th, 2013, Tumblr [2] user sandandglass posted a two-panel image of the moment. The post received more than 60,000 notes in six years (shown below, left).
The following year, on June 13th, 2014, Memes Deportes[3] user pitoagaras posted an image that compared Ralph's dive to a professional soccer player. The post received more than 500 upvotes (shown below, center).
On July 4th, 2015, Tumblr[4] user supahighposts posted the image with the caption "when your friend is smoking weed and invites you over." The post received more than 6,500 points in four years (shown below, right).
In March 2019, the image grew in popularity on the /r/dankmemes subreddit. For example, on March 18th, Redditor[5] meatbeater777 posted the image with a caption about Dwayne Johnson appearing in "mediocre" action films. The post received more than 57,000 points (98% upvoted) and 360 comments in 24 hours (shown below).
