About
Raleqtambrobrét is a fake food described as a fishy, cheese-like fungi that goes well on toast. The food was first purported to exist by an anonymous user of 4chan's /ck/ (cooking) board in late 2023, leading some anons to wonder if it is real while others trolled by pretending it is real. The 4chan post was made in December 2023 and screenshotted, gaining viral spread over the following weeks.
Origin
On December 21st, 2023, an anonymous user of 4chan's[1] /ck/ board posted, "What do you usually put on your toast? I'm very torn between Poached and scrambled eggs." In response, another anon[2] responded, "I normally put raleqtambrobrét on my toast." Another anon asked what raleqtambrobrét is, garnering the response, "sort of a fishy cheese-like fungi but with the consistency of rento very tasty and mostly inflation proof considering the plentiful supply," along with a photo of an unknown food on top of toast (shown below). Another anon accused the poster of making up Raleqtambrobrét, garnering the response, "maybe go to Reddit and use your worthless time discussing chicken nuggets and pepperoni pizza."
There is no evidence to suggest that raleqtambrobrét is a real food.
The meme was created by TikToker @greentextgaming, who sent an email to a Know Your Meme editor admitting to being the anon who originally posted about raleqtambrobret. In the email they write, "Just made up a word [raleqtambrobret] that I thought would be funny in the Matt Berry AI voice I use and started continually shitposting about it. Didn’t expect it to become as wide-spread as it has." They also provided a screenshot of the post marked "OP" as evidence that they produced the meme (shown below).
Spread
The thread was screenshotted and gained viral spread over the following weeks. On December 22nd, 2023, TikToker[3] @greentextgaming, the creator of the meme, posted a video reading through the thread, garnering over 1.3 million views in three weeks (shown below).
