Queer Walking Mode refers to a viral Photoshopped image of Google Maps comparing the typical walking mode with a "queer walking mode" accompanied by the LGBTQ+ flag. The image was posted to Twitter / X in November 2019, referencing the internet theory that queer people walk faster than everyone else, being later párodied and edited to other memes joking about the same topic.
On November 19th, 2019, X[1] user @chrisarvinsf uploaded a Photoshopped Google Maps images showing a walking mode versus a queer walking mode accompanied by the LGBTQ+ flag, captioning as "walking mode vs queer walking mode." The post (seen below) amassed more than 40,000 likes and 8,000 reposts in five years.
The "queer walking mode" meme became a viral exploitable image for jokes about queer people walking faster than everyone else. For example, on May 19th, 2020, Redditor[2] @NvrOnTime shared the image accompanied by a Brooklyn Nine-Nine scene mentioning the queer walk (seen below, left), which amassed more than 1,900 upvotes and 58 comments in four years.
On June 8th, 2023, iFunny[3] user @kolbert posted a screenshot tweet using the queer walking mode meme paired with the caption "Pride month is upon us, be wary of the LGBT's 2.0x movement speed buff." The post (seen below, right) received roughly 5 likes in a year.
