Put Your Shoes On, Mom Needs You To Fight Someone refers to a TikTok trend where parents, primarily mothers, tell their son or daughter that they've been arguing with another mom and if they have to fight her, their kid is going to have to fight the other kid. The wholesome videos usually result in the child being ready to fight for their mother. It started in mid-2022 and carried into the remaining year.
Origin
On July 8th, 2022, TikToker[1] mycraftingcorner1 posted a video, wherein, she approached her son playing video games and told him to put his shoes on because he might have to fight the son of a mom who was "being mean" to her. Mycraftingcorner1 additionally wrote in text overlay on the video, "He's ready to fight for his momma 😂." Over the course of four days, the video received roughly 2.9 million plays and 319,000 likes (shown below).
Julian, do you have your shoes on? I need you to put your shoes on.

Pause your game, pause your game. Put your shoes on because… Because I have to go talk to this lady because she was being mean to me…

As the aforementioned TikTok accumulated engagement, other TikTokers added to the trend on the same day. For instance, on July 8th, 2022, TikToker[2] prettybrown.cls posted a video with her teenager daughter, captioning it, "WHEN YO DAUGHTER GOT YOUR BACK," and earned roughly 874,800 plays and 101,400 likes in four days (shown below, left). On July 9th, 2022, TikToker[3] courtneyb.sanders posted a video with her daughter, however, her daughter had the opposite reaction and did not want to fight. The video received roughly 731,700 plays and 54,500 likes in three days (shown below, right).
More TikToks that led with the opening statement, "Put your shoes on," were posted to the platform going into July 2022. The trend spread to YouTube a few days later when compilation videos of the TikToks were created and uploaded. For instance, on July 11th, 2022, the YouTube [4] channel DonlamiTV Reacts posted a compilation, earning over 5,000 views in less than 24 hours (shown below).
