"Psycho" Intro Gone Wrong refers to an original sound on TikTok in which a person attempts to sing the introductory adlib from the song "Psycho" by the K-pop group Red Velvet. However, as she attempts to sing it, her voice cracks, causing her to burst into laughter. The sound has since been used in over 112,000 videos on the platform, often as an accompaniment to humorous moments from K-pop idols or videos of fails.

Origin

Red Velvet released "Psycho" on December 23rd, 2019, which was also uploaded to the SMTOWN YouTube^[1] channel where it received over 311 million views in roughly two years (shown below).

On July 31st, 2021, TikToker^[2] @boopology posted a video of herself attempting to sing the song's opening adlib, failing and then bursting into laughter (shown below, left). The same day, she made the video a sound for the platform (shown below, right). The videos gained over 4.7 and 9 million views, respectively, in roughly four months.

Over the following months, the sound accompanied videos that either showed humorous moments from K-pop idols or other humorous "fail" content. Notable examples in the former category include an August 12th, 2021, upload by TikToker^[3] @woobinsheart that gained over 5 million likes in three months on the platform (shown below, left) and an upload by TikToker^[4] @ourbtob that gained over 4.2 million likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).

Among humorous, non-K-pop-related videos, notable examples include an October 16th, 2021, upload by @pp_play that gained over 2.9 million likes in one month (shown below, left) and a September 4th upload by @stephdo_ making fun of the outfits at the 2021 Met Gala, gaining over 2.2 million likes in two months (shown below, right).
