About

Prince Harry "Fortnite Ban" Quote refers to an argument made by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex that Fortnite should be banned on the grounds that it encourages keeping players hooked for as long as possible and is akin to addiction. The comments were quickly mocked on social media.

Origin

Speaking to a YMCA in West London on April 3rd, 2019,[1] Prince Harry talked about the dangers of Fortnite, saying "That game shouldn't be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household? It's created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It's so irresponsible. It's like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down." Harry also stated social media was "more addictive than drugs or alcohol."

Spread

Prince Harry's comments were quickly mocked on social media. @ByYourLogic[2] joked that Harry must've lost at the game, gaining over 440 likes (shown below, left). User @alexisthenedd[3] joked Harry thought "Fortnite Gaming" meant "gaming for two weeks straight," gaining over 1,300 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, right).

Others joked with support of Harry's statements, but because they think Fortnite is a bad game, not because they believe it causes addiction. Posts like this include a post by @Felix79581384[4] that used a Carefully, He's a Hero meme which gained over 20 retweets (shown below, left). Twitter user @8BA_ALI[5] joked "No Fortnite, No Masters" (shown below, right). The jokes were covered by The Daily Dot.[6]
