Prince Charming Kissing Fiona is an exploitable image macro depicting the fictional characters Prince Charming and Princess Fiona from the animated comedy Shrek 2. In memes, the scene of Prince Charming looking backward is used as a reaction image to express when someone is suddenly distracted by something, often during sex, due to Fiona’s face seen in the frame.

Origin

The original clip that the meme is pulled from is seen during Shrek 2, which was released on May 19th, 2004. During the scene (featured below), Prince Charming is dancing with Fiona while the song “I Need a Hero” plays in the background. When Shrek bursts into the room, Prince Charming, who is about to kiss Fiona, turns to look over his shoulder, creating the still image used in the meme.^[1]

The first time the scene is used in a meme comes from a post by Redditor ChanandelerB to the /r/dankmemes^[2] subreddit on November 10th, 2020. Referencing the Netflix and Chill meme, the post received over 106,000 upvotes, 410 comments and several Reddit Awards in nearly two months (shown below).

On November 11th, 2020, another example was posted to the /r/freefolk^[3] subreddit by Redditor ourinvertedreality, receiving over 100 upvotes and 11 comments in roughly two months (seen below, left). On November 12th, Redditor StSpyro posted a photoshopped version referencing Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure to the /r/shitpostcrusaders^[4] subreddit, receiving over 5,300 upvotes, 47 comments and several awards in roughly two months (seen below, right).

On November 13th, 2020, TikTok^[5] user lebronfah uploaded a video of himself reacting to the original meme with the song “Dancing in My Room” playing in the background, accumulating over 11,500 views, 2,300 likes and 20 comments in nearly two months (shown below).
