Pregnancy Roulette is an online trend in which girls play a “pregnancy Russian roulette” social game and then try to guess which one is pregnant. The trend first began around December 2020 but was popularized on TikTok in March 2022, continuing to garner virality throughout 2023.

Origin

On December 6th, 2020, a group of friends decided to do a "pregnancy roulette" game, which was posted on TikTok^[1] by user @asweetceleste. The video (shown below, left) started with each of the friends putting a pregnancy test kit that they took into a box and mixing the contents so that they could randomly check the test results. The post garnered over 42 million plays and 7 million likes in three years.

A day after the video went viral, TikToker @asweetceleste posted another video^[2] revealing she was the owner of the only positive test in the game (shown below. right). The video amassed more than 3 million likes and 235,000 likes in three years.

Spread

Throughout the following years, content about the pregnancy roulette game consistently went viral on TikTok. For example, on November 22nd, 2022, TikToker^[3] @hannavatnedalmoe posted a video joining the trend (shown below, left) with her best friend, which garnered over 14 million plays and 1.2 million likes in a year. On September 19th, 2023, two other best friends decided to do the pregnancy roulette game and shared the results on @cirenawilson's TikTok^[4] account. The post (shown below, right) amassed more than 5 million plays and 1 million likes in a day.
