About
Preaching to the Mob is the informal name of an exploitable comic in which a person stands atop a mountain and shouts to an angry mob something that upsets it, but in the final two panels amends the statement to pleases it.
Origin
The original comic was posted by Redditor and comics artist SrGrafo to /r/gaming[1] on January 24th, 2019. The comic was about The Witcher III and gained over 77,000 points (shown below).
Spread
The comic's panels were quickly remixed and a blank template for a potential meme format was posted to /r/MemeEconomy[2] by user ShiningSquid1291, gaining over 600 points.
In the ensuing comments, users contributed their variations to the template. User GeneralBh posted a meta version for the subreddit (shown below, left) and user TurkishRage made a comic about Furries (shown below, right).
Seeing the growing popularity of the meme, SrGrafo posted a cleaned-up version of the template, gaining over 7,700 points.[3] On January 25th, Redditor MiningMathSushi posted a variation to /r/memes that gained over 67,000 points (shown below, left). Redditor DI0NSY posted a variation to /r/me_irl on January 27th that gained over 12,000 points (shown below, right).
