About

Practicing How To Fight Incase Of Unrealistic Scenarios refers to a lip-dub trend on TikTok where users shadowbox in an unlikely setting for a fight under the pretense of practicing their fighting skills in case of a specific, unrealistic fight scenario presented via on-screen text. The trend is set to a sound effect of rapid punching and rustling noises from a video of Jasmine Masters air-boxing on a chair and went viral in early September 2021.

Origin

On September 3rd, 2019, episode 204 of Jasmine Masters' Class was uploaded to the WOWPresents YouTube[1] channel. The episode covers topics about social media. At timestamp 4:15, Masters rapidly throws punches at the air to demonstrate how you should have fighting skills if you're going to meet someone off social media that you don't know (shown below).

On June 15th, 2021, TikToker[2] @iamcampeoples posted an isolated clip of Masters shadowboxing while sitting in the chair, gaining over 999,000 views in three months (shown below).

Spread

Over the following weeks, TikTokers began using the sound in videos where they box pillows or other objects with the purpose of practicing fighting. On June 22nd, 2021, TikToker[3] @nisiadeshawn posted a video using the sound over footage of her beating up her pillow with on-screen text reading, "me checking to see if I still got my fighting skills just in case i come across the girl i told it was 'on sight,'" gaining over 450,000 views in three months. On August 19th, TikToker[4] @notpimpinlenabruh uploaded a similar video, gaining over 616,000 views in a month (shown below, right).

The trend saw an increase in popularity in early September, and the fighting scenarios presented in the videos became more unrealistic and absurd.
