Potato Jeremy's or Potato Jeremys refers to a series of memes inspired by a voiced-over Nyazsche comic in which a fast food worker asks a customer if he wants fries with his order and the customer answers, "Where I'm from we call fries 'potato Jeremys," the worker shouting back, "Where the fuck are you from???" The comic was posted to X / Twitter in late September 2023 and voiced over by E.G. Simmons in December 2024, garnering viral spread and inspiring memes, including lip dubs and animations, primarily on TikTok.
Origin
On September 28th, 2023, X[1] artist @Nyazsche posted a comic depicting a cat ordering a meal from a fast food restaurant. The fast food employee asks, "Do you want fries with that?" The customer responds, "Where I'm from we call fries 'potato Jeremys.' The worker responds, "Where the fuck are you from???" The post gained over 17,000 likes and 2,800 reposts in roughly two years.
On December 17th, 2024, X[2] user @ganglemanVA posted a voiceover of the meme as a quote response to the original post, garnering over 16,000 likes and 2,800 reposts in a month. The user also uploaded the video to their TikTok[3] page that day, garnering over 1.4 million views in the same span of time.
Spread
The comic and the voiceover became the subject of memes shortly after the voiceover was posted. For example, on December 17th, 2024, a redraw of the comic was posted to /r/NightInTheWoods[4] that gained over 740 upvotes in a month.
On TikTok, the voiceover audio became the subject of lip dubs and animations. On December 17th, TikToker[5] @maybeemason posted a Mouthwashing animation that gained over 960,000 views in a month. On December 18th, TIkToker[6] @punkeydoodles8 posted one using original characters that gained over 750,000 views in the same span of time.
In January 2025, the sound started to see more frequent use in lip dub videos. On January 25th, 2025, TikToker[7] @humankanvas posted a video using the voiceover in a skit about snake bite piercings, garnering over 300,000 views in two days.
